About Us
Rooted In Tradition, Focused on Tomorrow
A Journey of Compassion and Purpose
At Guerrero Leather, our story is one of resilience, adaptation, and unwavering commitment to making a difference. What began as a personal mission to adopt a young girl from Mexico evolved into something much larger - a company dedicated to creating opportunities and changing lives in Guerrero, Chihuahua.

Our Story
Our founder has been involved in the town of Guerrero, Chihuahua since 2006, when she started translating for Guerrero Clinic, A Surgical Eye Clinic that operates via The Crystal Foundation and Rotary Clubs in Texas.
In 2017, our founder was introduced to a promising young lady and efforts began to adopt this young lady, let's call her "K."
When those adoption efforts faced challenges, our founder pivoted to supporting this young lady's education and future in Mexico. However, life took an unexpected turn when "K" became pregnant at 15, joining the ranks of teen mothers in a region where adolescent pregnancy rates remain a pressing concern.
A Turning Point
After "K's" boyfriend crossed illegally into the U.S., "K" asked to borrow $5,000 to pay a coyote for passage into the United States, her request opened our eyes to the harsh realities many families face:
-
Human smugglers, or "coyotes," charge Mexicans an average of $6,937 to cross the border, with women often paying 19% more.
-
These fees can range from $5,000 to $8,000 for a basic crossing attempt from Mexico.
-
For many, these exorbitant fees represent years of savings or crippling debt.
-
The journey is fraught with danger, with hundreds dying each year from exposure in the desert.
Realizing that such dangerous and expensive crossings were seen as the only option for a better life, our founder became determined to create viable alternatives in Guerrero. By providing stable employment and fair wages through Guerrero Leather, Guerrero Leather aims to eliminate the need for families to risk everything on perilous border crossings.
Our mission now extends beyond craftsmanship – we're working to build a future where young people like "K" can thrive in their own communities, free from the pressure to make such life-threatening choices.
Our Mission: Empowering Communities Through Employment
Guerrero Leather was born from this realization - a "Plan C" that aims to create sustainable job opportunities for young mothers, men, women, and seasonal workers in Guerrero, Chihuahua. Our mission is twofold:
-
To produce high-quality leather goods that showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of Mexican artisans.
-
To provide stable, meaningful employment that allows families to stay together and thrive in their home communities.
By focusing on job creation, we're working to address one of the key factors driving families apart and forcing difficult choices about migration. Our approach is rooted in the belief that when people have access to good jobs at home, they're less likely to feel compelled to separate from their loved ones in search of economic opportunities elsewhere.
Our Impact: More Than Just Leather Goods
While we take pride in the quality of our products, Guerrero Leather is about much more than craftsmanship. We're building a company that:
-
Empowers young mothers, single mothers, men and women with skills and steady income
-
aims to Provide year-round employment in a region often reliant on seasonal work
-
Invests in skill development and training for local artisans
-
Contributes to the economic stability of Guerrero, Chihuahua
